The Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology offers a flexible curriculum designed to prepare students to apply knowledge and skills in exercise physiology to careers in fitness, wellness, research, and various health professions such as medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, and physician assistant.

The University of Florida admits students as freshmen into the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. The faculty are award-winning teachers, mentors, and researchers who are passionate about providing students with learning experiences in and out of the classroom that will prepare them for success in any number of professional areas. The department's curriculum is designed to give students a foundation in traditional Exercise Physiology and allow for a bit of personal tailoring in the upper division. Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in APK will be forward-thinking leaders and top-notch problem solvers.
This curriculum provides a strong basic science background and requires additional coursework in the biological aspects of exercise. Students who wish to focus on fitness, wellness, and allied health professions can take classes that focus on exercise programming and techniques and anatomical aspects of movement. Students who are more interested in preparing for graduate school or other post-baccalaureate programs in health sciences can opt for classes with more clinical and advanced physiological content. All students will complete a one-semester internship as a capstone experience. All required courses must be completed before the internship.
To remain on track, students must complete the appropriate critical-tracking courses, which appear in bold. These courses must be completed by the terms as listed above in the Critical Tracking criteria.
This semester plan represents an example progression through the major. Actual courses and course order may be different depending on the student's academic record and scheduling availability of courses. Prerequisites still apply.
The Bachelor of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology offers specializations in exercise physiology and in fitness/wellness. Students will gain extensive understanding of the anatomical, physiological and psychological bases and consequences of human movement. Students will explore the relationship between physical activity and health and learn how to prevent and treat athletic injuries.

Aspiring teachers must prepare a portfolio of materials during their student teaching clinical experience. edTPA requires aspiring teachers to demonstrate readiness to teach through lesson plans designed to support their students' strengths and needs; engage real students in ambitious learning; analyze whether their students are learning, and adjust their instruction to become more effective. Teacher candidates submit unedited video recordings of themselves at work in a real classroom as part of a portfolio that is scored by highly trained educators. edTPA builds on decades of teacher performance assessment development and research regarding teaching skills and practices that improve student learning.
Video Taping Consent Form: The consent form should be distributed to each parent by the student intern. This form allows the student to video tape in the classroom for academic use only. Each student appearing in the videos needs to have a signed consent form on file.

Academic programs, departments, or colleges may have admission requirements in addition to those of the Graduate College. These may include, but are not limited to: the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), a portfolio, scholarly papers, letters of recommendation, or a personal statement. For these specific requirements, contact the specific academic program and/or refer to the academic catalog.
Only the Graduate College can make formal offers of admission. Academic programs make admission recommendations to the Graduate College based on their review of all required application materials. While departments and programs may notify applicants that they have recommended their admission, the Graduate College notifies all applicants in writing of any official admission decision.
Admission to many academic programs is on a competitive basis, and those programs frequently set higher standards and evaluation criteria than the Graduate College. Therefore, meeting the minimum Graduate College requirements does not ensure admission to a graduate program.
If an applicant meets all admission criteria, has been evaluated and recommended for admission by the academic program, and has been evaluated and approved by the Graduate College, the applicant may be granted regular admission, barring any extenuating circumstances.
Individuals interested in personal enrichment or not ready to apply to a degree program, may apply for admission as a non-degree student. The application process is streamlined and does not require a submission of transcripts or test scores.
Residency Classification for tuition purposes is based on policies set by the Arizona Board of Regents. Students arriving to Arizona from another state, enrolled in an institution of higher education in Arizona, and are maintaining continuous enrollment are presumed to be presiding in Arizona primarily as a student, and are not present to establish domicile. Therefore, they are not eligible for the Arizona resident tuition rate.
Typically, for a student to be independently classified as a resident for tuition purposes, they must be physically present in Arizona 12 consecutive months prior to enrollment, employed and paying AZ taxes, and able to document up to 24 months of financial independence. This presence must be coupled with clear and convincing evidence of intent to establish a domicile in Arizona beyond the circumstances of being a student. Mere presence of a person in this state does not, by itself, constitute domicile. There is a presumption that no adult student or emancipated minor has established a domicile in this state while attending any educational institution in this state.
