What is Better Vanilla Perks Anniversary Edition?
Better Vanilla Perks Anniversary Edition is a mod created by absol89 that aims to improve the vanilla perk system in Skyrim. It was originally released in 2016 and has been updated several times since then. The latest version is 5.5, which was released in August 2021.
This mod does not add any new perks or change the perk layout. Instead, it modifies the existing perks to make them more balanced, rewarding and fun. It also adds some new effects and bonuses to some perks that were previously bland or useless.
Here are some of the features of this mod:
It's compatible with smithing reworks and spell mods (Not Ordinator).
It's based on a clean 5.2 version that has been xEdit cleaned by DEEJMASTER333.
It has translations for Spanish and Polish languages.
It has a tentative bugfix for amber and madness armor in Anniversary Edition.
It has a video showcase by absol89 on YouTube.
How does it change the perk trees?
Better Vanilla Perks Anniversary Edition changes almost every perk tree in the game, except for Enchanting, Alchemy and Lockpicking. Here are some examples of how it changes the perk trees:
Smithing
This mod adds the ability to temper Blades and leather armors more. It also gives silver and iron weapons a 30% buff to undead damage. Additionally, it allows you to unlock Daedric/Ebony smithing via the Arcane path, and Glass smithing at 80 skill through Arcane too.
Heavy Armor
This mod gives each Juggernaut stage bonuses for sets of increasing qualities of armor types. For example, novice armor includes iron, steel, iron banded etc., while advanced armors include plate and faction armors. It also fixes matching set perks to no longer require helmets and fists of steel to include pugilist gloves.
Block
This mod gives each Block Mastery level 5 unarmed damage, with benefits for two-handed blockers too. It also changes Quick Reflexes slowmo to stage 2 because the time slow was a bit too strong in the earlier perk.
Two Handed
This mod adds armor penetration and power attack bonuses on two-handed axes and bleed on greatswords. It also restores normal Sweep functionality.
One Handed
This mod focuses on critical hit chance, with power attack damage on war axes. It also gives Flurry for all one-handed weapons. Note: You can unlock Flurry 1-2 with two-handed skill at 30 and 50 too, you just need the first Armsman perk.
Archery
This mod focuses on penetration and poisons applied to arrows, crit chance, damage and staggering. It also adds some new effects such as slowing down enemies with frost arrows or setting them on fire with fire arrows.
Light Armor
This mod gives each Agile Defender level bonuses for sets of increasing qualities of armors and sets. For example, novice armor includes fur, hide, leather etc., while advanced armors include elven and scaled armors. It also adds some new effects such as increased movement speed or stamina regeneration.
